Analysis of the Advantages and Disadvantages of Magnetic Flip-Type

Update Time:2023-03-01

The magnetic float level gauge is a commonly used liquid level measurement instrument with the following advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages

Intuitive and clear: The color change of the floats directly and clearly indicates the liquid level, allowing operators to easily read the level information on-site without the need for additional instruments.

Wide Measurement Range: It covers a broad liquid level range and can accommodate containers of varying heights, meeting requirements from tens of millimeters to tens of meters or even wider measurement ranges.

High Accuracy: Utilizing the principle of magnetic coupling, it eliminates the need for mechanical transmission components, reducing errors caused by factors such as mechanical wear. This enables high measurement accuracy, typically within ±10 mm.

High reliability: The structure is relatively simple, with no complex electronic components or vulnerable parts. It features excellent sealing performance and is minimally affected by external environmental conditions, resulting in high reliability, stability, and a long service life.

Good adaptability: It can be used to measure liquids of various properties, including water, oil, acids, alkalis, and other corrosive liquids, and can operate normally under harsh working conditions such as high temperatures and high pressures.

Multi-functional: In addition to on-site level display, it can be equipped with remote transmission devices such as transmitters and magnetic switches, facilitating the transmission of level signals to the control room for remote monitoring and automated control. It also supports level alarm functions.

Disadvantages

Strict installation requirements: During installation, the level gauge must be mounted vertically, and there must be no strong magnetic field interference in the surrounding area; otherwise, the normal operation of the float and flap will be affected, leading to measurement inaccuracies.

Media limitations: Although it can adapt to a wide range of media, high-viscosity, crystallizing, or solidifying media may affect the normal buoyancy of the float, thereby impacting measurement accuracy or even causing the float to jam.

Difficult maintenance: When performing maintenance or repairs on the level gauge on-site, the liquid in the tank must first be drained, and operations must be conducted with care to prevent damage to components such as the float and flip plates; the maintenance process is relatively complex.

Inability to Measure Interfaces: Generally, magnetic flip-plate level gauges can only measure the level of a single liquid. Measuring the interface between two different liquids typically requires a special design or the combination of other measurement methods.

High Initial Investment: Compared to simpler level measurement instruments, such as glass tube level gauges, magnetic flip-plate level gauges are more expensive, increasing the initial investment cost of a project.
